About Us

Mid West Ports Authority (MWPA) operates as a Western Australian Government Trading Enterprise and is governed under the Port Authorities Act 1999 WA (the Act).

MWPA was established on 1 July 2014, as a result of the Ports Legislation Amendment Act 2014 consolidating seven of WA’s eight port authorities into four new regional port authorities.

MWPA is governed by the Board of Directors appointed by the Minister for Ports.

Our Role

Under the Port Authorities Act 1999 MWPA is required to:

  1. "facilitate trade within and through the port and plan for future growth and development of the port;

  2. undertake or arrange for activities that will encourage and facilitate the development of trade and commerce generally for the economic benefit of the State through the use of the port and related facilities;

  3. control business and other activities in the port or in connection with the operation of the port;

  4. be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the port;

  5. be responsible for maintaining port property;

  6. be responsible for port security; and

  7. protect the environment of the port and minimise the impact of port operations on that environment."
