Position Description - Safety Manager

The successful applicant will have had six (6) years’ previous experience in mining, transport or relevant industry with excellent knowledge of OSH legislation. You will be a driven leader that will inspire your team through effective coaching and collaboration. The ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture across the organisation will be key to your success in this role.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES: (Selection Criteria)

  • Up-to-date knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and policies;
  • Proven experience in building and driving safety and wellness programs across an organisation using a collaborative style;
  • Demonstrated experience within relevant industry along with experience working with government and regulatory stakeholders;
  • Sound knowledge of risk management principles and related practices and procedures;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, Regulations and Codes of Practice;
  • Knowledge of Hazard Management principles;
  • Ability to identify safety issues and prepare a comprehensive plan to achieve goals;
  • Ability to work with groups of staff to develop health and safety performance improvement strategies;
  • Proven experience in quality people management;
  • Demonstrated experience in successful project management, including planning, engagement, monitoring and reporting to meet or exceed specified outcomes and timeframes;
  • Sound communication skills;
  • Sound computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database systems;
  • Ability to investigate accidents and incidents and make recommendation for preventative action; and
  • Demonstrated experience working with Workplace Health and Safety Standards.
