Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP)

An inundation study was jointly commissioned by MWPA and the City of Greater Geraldton (CGG) for the Geraldton Port and CBD area. Coastal, hydrologic and hydraulic processes modelling was undertaken to determine inundation depths and durations across the study area. This involved integrated modelling of rainfall across the catchment and coastal boundary conditions associated with cyclonic and non-cyclonic storm tide and tsunami events for 3 design events covering a range of annual recurrence intervals and exceedance probabilities. The effect of sea level rise was also assessed for 3 timeframes including 2030, 2070 and 2110. The outputs of this modelling form the basis of a range of inundation maps and informs emergency response plans and stormwater infrastructure plans.

A Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP) is currently being prepared by MWPA based on the data produced by the inundation study to identify risk treatment options to protect Port assets, land and leases.
