Mid West Ports Authority (MWPA) have successfully completed clean-up operations of a minor oil spill in Geraldton Harbour, thanks to a rapid response to contain and localise the spill to an area adjacent to Berth 5.

Thorough inspections of the affected area by Department of Transport oil spill response specialists and MWPA staff took place at midday today (13 February) deeming the water and surrounding structures clear of any remaining oil. As a result, part of the team from the Department of Transport were able to demobilise and return to Perth with the remainder of the team expected to demobilise tomorrow (14 February).

It is expected that Berth 5 operations will recommence once approval has been provided by AMSA. Booms will remain in place around the vessel when operations recommence. The area will continue to be monitored over coming days and additional updates will be provided as further information becomes known.

The public can email [email protected] for any further information.

MWPA will continue to inform the community, port stakeholders and staff of any updates.
