Community grants program opens doors in Mid West

The recipients of the Mid West Ports Authority (MWPA) Community Grants Program were recently finalised with 21 Mid West community groups, clubs and organisations benefitting from $118.472 in funding.

“The award of these grants recognises the contribution these community groups make to benefitting the social, environmental and economic prospects of our region,” Mid West Ports Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Rochelle Macdonald said.

“Many of these groups work with small budgets and this grants program can provide the opportunity for them to get new and exciting projects off the ground that will ultimately benefit the Mid West.”

The recipients of the second round of the Community Grants Program include:
• Northern Agricultural Catchments Council, National Malleefowl & Threatened Species Forum;
• HMAS Sydney Association, Sydney Memorial Weekend;
• Geraldton Mountain Bike Club, Purchase of BBQ and esky to improve club facilities and facilitate events;
• Geraldton Mission to Seafarers, seafarers support program;
• Ngala Community Services, LEAD Leadership Exploration and Development Program 2021;
• Geraldton Board Riders Junior Development Club, Frothin' Fools Gero Grom Fest' 2022;
• Woorree Park BMX Club, State BMX Racing Round: BMX Superseries;
• Geraldton Athletics Incorporated, facilitation of a new timing system;
• Oceanic Taekwon-Do Academy, West Australian ITF Taekwon-Do State Championships 2021;
• The Geraldton Community Toy Library INC, host a Stay and Play: Water event;
• Football West and Geraldton Sporting Aboriginal Corporation, Mid West players to take part in Jambinu Tour;
• Geraldton Tigersharks Rugby Club, Geraldton 10 Aside Rugby Tournament;
• Friends of Geraldton Gardens Inc. (Froggs), Maitland Park Botanic Garden Stage one;
• Mullewa Muster & Rodeo Inc, Mullewa Muster & Rodeo 2021;
• Rover Junior Football Club Inc, Youth Girls Team Football Jumpers;
• Desert Blue Connect, Community Respect & Equality (CRE) Summit;
• Batavia coast replica boat "the Longboat", community sailing project;
• Geraldton Yacht Club, 2021/2022 Season Sponsorship;
• The Rural Regional and Remote Womens Network of Western Australia Inc, RRR Roundtable;
• Chapman Valley Primary School, Water Tank Mural; and
• Irwin District Historical Society, Pullin' the Pots Oral History Program (Stage 2).

Each of these groups were assessed by a grants committee as making a positive contribution to the Mid West region, aligned with MWPAs organisational values.

Dr Rochelle Macdonald said, “the committee assessed many worthy applications in this year’s funding round, and it is fantastic to see so many vibrant community groups working to better our region.”
