Shipping to resume

Shipping is set to resume on Berth 6 tomorrow morning after Mid West Ports Authority were successfully able to contain, localise and commence early clean-up of a minor oil spill adjacent to Berth 5 in Geraldton Harbour.

Thorough inspections of the adjacent rocks and Berth 6 piles were completed today and deemed clear of any oil, allowing shipping to recommence.

Secondary booms have been deployed across Berth 5 to assist with clean-up operations. It is expected the remaining oil will be cleared from the water within the next 48 hours.

Representatives from the Department of Transport arrived in Geraldton yesterday to support the clean-up operation.

Assessments into the initial source of the spill are continuing, assisted by relevant authorities.

The situation will continue to be monitored over the weekend and additional updates will be provided as further information becomes known.

The public can email [email protected] for any further information.

MWPA will continue to inform the community, port stakeholders and staff of any updates.
