A minor oil spill identified earlier this morning in the Geraldton Harbour has been contained to Berth 5 after Mid West Ports Authority successfully deployed a series of booms.

No further oil has been released and the containment booms will remain in place as assessments into the initial source of the spill continue.

MWPA established an Incident Management Team earlier today, who are continuing to undertake response operations.

The Department of Transport and other relevant authorities are assisting in the response.

The situation will continue to be monitored overnight and additional updates will be provided as further information becomes known.

The public can email [email protected] for any further information.

MWPA will continue to inform the community, port stakeholders and staff of any updates.
