Over 1500 people were given an insight into the Port of Geraldton’s operations on Sunday as the Mid West Ports Authority hosted its annual Community Open Day.
As part of celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Port Authority, Shepherds Park was transformed into a community hub - complete with local food, entertainment and live music.
Of the 1500 people who attended the event, over 450 enjoyed a guided bus tour through the Port of Geraldton.
MWPA General Manager Sustainability, Culture and People Vickie Williams said one of the tours welcomed a very special guest.
“A highlight for our team was when one of our staff members was able to take his 106-year-old great grandmother for a tour of the Port,’ She said.
“She was delighted that she could get to see where her grandson actually worked.”
“We love how events like our Community Open Day are able to connect us with the families of our staff and the wider community.”
Following the open day, MWPA hosted over 80 invited customers and dignitaries to a special sundowner event at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre.
Guests heard from MWPA Board of Directors Chair John Elkington, who spoke about the history of the Port and future developments.
MWPA Chief Executive Rochelle Macdonald also provided the audience an insight into MWPAs future vision and direction.
“Both of our events on Sunday were a fantastic opportunity to connect with our community and keep them informed of the exciting future ahead for MWPA,” Mrs Williams said.
The anniversary celebrations will continue with a MWPA staff function in coming weeks and further events planned for later in 2019.
