Geraldton Port Master Planning Project stage two

The Mid West Ports Authority is excited to announce stage two of the Geraldton Port Master Planning project is now underway.Port project in stage two

The project, announced by Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti MLA in January 2018, will investigate how the Port, its corridors and the Fishing Boat Harbour could develop to accommodate potentially significant trade over the next 30 years.

During stage one, project consultants GHD Advisory undertook a detailed study of Geraldton Port and surrounding areas, while also consulting with a number of relevant stakeholders.

The project has now moved into stage two, where GHD Advisory will use the information collected to create a variety of potential development options.

Senior Project Engineer Peter Duplex said stage two was expected to be completed in the new year.

“The studies in stage one considered a number of areas inside the Port and the Mid West region,” he said.

“Some of the things they looked into included our trade forecasts, current exporting and importing capacities, the development of Oakajee and our fishing and aquaculture industries.

“GHD Advisory will now put all that information in to play when creating a number of development options, which we will then shortlist and take to the community for comment.

“Once finalised, our plans could show us what Geraldton Port and the Mid West could look like in the future.”

A shortlisted development option will be made available for public comment as part of the third and final stage of the project later in 2019.
