  • This export channel to benefit WA farmers, providing extra early-season marketing capability
  • Provides extra export capacity for grain products from Geraldton Port

Mid West Ports has entered into a three-year Port Access Service Agreement with Plum Grove Logistics to export 600kt of grain to international markets, marking the first entrant to provide an additional grain supply chain to complement CBH’s grain export operations at the Port of Geraldton.

This Agreement follows two years of collaboration to develop a niche model to meet the needs of local grain growers that require greater flexibility to respond to agile growing conditions and international markets.
Plum Grove ‘s comprehensive quality assurance controls have enabled it to gain export approval, using Geraldton’s common-user Berth 6.

Trial shipments, which took place earlier this year, proved highly successful, meeting the Port’s strict environmental and operational controls. Last week marked the fourth successful shipment of wheat and lupin to Asian and European markets.

Mid West Ports Chief Executive Officer Damian Tully believes the Agreement heralds an exciting new chapter in the region’s growth and export capacity, saying “this new supply chain with Plum Grove will supplement CBH’s traditional export activities, and grow the capacity of our farmers to reach highly sought after overseas markets. This is great news for farmers, and great news for our region’s growing export capacity.”

Chief Executive of Plum Grove Logistics Andrew Young is confident this model is ideally positioned to support farmers with smaller freight tasks, including ‘paddock (to port) to plate’ operations.

“This model gives confidence to farmers to take advantage of opportunities to increase production during ideal conditions, and grow their exposure to international markets,” he said.

Geraldton Port is a vital partner connecting Mid West farmers with international markets and handles more than 3 million tonnes of grain each year.
