Record Trade Year For Mid West Ports

  • Mid West Ports achieves record 21.6 million tonnes of exports and imports 2025/26
  • Results show increase of 13 per cent throughput compared to last year
  • Bumper harvest sees 37 per cent increase in Mid West grain exports

Favourable weather for grain farmers, along with insatiable international demand for Mid-West regions’ mineral products, has seen Geraldton Port deliver another record financial year of trade.

Throughout the 2025-26 financial year, 21.6 million tonnes of commodities passed through Geraldton Port, valued at more than $9.8 billion dollars, representing a 13 per cent increase on the previous year.

This figure illustrates the high value of Mid West regional products on the world’s markets, and wealth that flows back to the region’s farmers, mines, and the supporting economy.

Chief Executive Officer Damian Tully believes these figures are set to grow further.  “This has been another record year of trade for Mid West Ports.  The Mid West region continues to experience strong and increasing economic growth and is a vital partner for our state’s farming and mining industries and their international markets,” he said.

With growth in the region set to continue, the $350 million Port Maximisation Project (PMaxP), will optimise Geraldton Port to support future trade growth and emerging industries. Current works include the construction of a surge breakwater to reduce operational downtime, and a new high-speed Truck Unloader, which will streamline the fast loading of products from truck to conveyor to bulk vessels alongside Berth 4.

With these investments, the Port is also positioning itself to handle increasing volumes of renewable energy equipment, such as windfarm blades, underpinning the state’s energy transition.

Geraldton Port also experienced an 8 per cent uptick in vessel traffic this financial year with 450 vessel visits, including three cruise visits, adding to the growth in tourism to the seaside town.

“The continued investment in our Port will deliver both the infrastructure as well as the confidence for new industries to emerge, which will support more job opportunities for the Geraldton community and Mid West region,” Mr Tully added.
